Horse Transport Reference List

Here is a list of horse transport companies we have collected. You are responsible for finding your own transport and doing the research needed to check references, if licensed/insured/DOT compliant/etc. This is just a directory list and no guarantees on these shippers. We do not endorse or recommend any of them, this is simply a reference list we have gathered. Do your own research and judgement! Please make sure you choose a reputable company, ask questions, and do your research before hiring a hauler. Trailers should be a minimum of 7' tall, sturdy, safe, and well maintained. Racehorses are usually used to hauling in large vans, straight loads, or slant loads. They may not be used to being loose in stock trailers so those are not recommended. Box Stalls on large vans or "Stall & a Half" are the best options you can choose when shipping. This allows plenty of room for their comfort and what they are used to.

(list has been compiled from our own list, New Vocations, Canter,
and other TB resources to help you get your new horse home!)

***We have heard some horror stories from using UShip website with non-professional haulers etc,
so please be careful and call a shipper direct instead!***

List  Of  Transporters  we  have  heard  negative  feedback  from  experience:

If we hear from someone having a bad experience that warrants actually adding a name to this list, we have added the name of shippers to offer those of you who wish to research them the ability to be cautious if using these shipping companies.  We all know stuff happens and not every trip can always go 100% perfect, but if someone contacts us with a really unfortunate shipping experience, horses injured/severely dehydrated etc we will add those names to this list.  These are not the opinions of PA Racehorse Rehoming, just that of our friends who have asked us to publish this.  Thank You!
Scott Thompson horse transport / Great Lakes Equine Transport Services
*Owner had OTTB shipped, horse was on trailer for 3 days (1.5 days longer than supposed to be) with little updates and horse had at some point went down in trailer probably early on in trip and had visible wounds on front leg. Shipper was unaware of the injury and owner was not notified. Shipper had good references but this specific trip was not a good experience.

"Josh Matheny transported this horse, a 24 y.o. 15+h mare named Velvet from NJ to GA but traveled thru other states as well over a 9 day period. He demanded more money before unloading horse and refused to deliver her when new owner said they did not have it. He has now said that he sold this mare. His truck plates are from TX I will try to get a picture or the number of the plates and a picture of Josh. Contact is Tracy Snyder"

PA Racehorse Rehoming,Rehabilitation, Rescue is a Federal 501(c)(3) non-profit organization Federal ID number: 66-0821935
whose Articles of Incorporation were filed with the State of Pennsylvania on May 9, 2014 (effective date of exemption) with
Public Charity Status 509(a)(2) under section 501(c)(3).
Contributions made to PARR are tax deductible. Our Letter of Determination
from the IRS was received on April 16, 2015 and any donations made after May 9th, 2014 may qualify for tax exemption.

Our Legal Name is "PA Racehorse Rehoming, Rehabilitation, & Rescue" and we often go by the abbreviated nickname "PARR". PARR operates  on a 100% volunteer basis with all proceeds going to our cause and the animals. Any and all items or monetary donations go directly to the expenses of supporting these animals. This includes veterinary expenses, transport, "pull" fees, food/boarding or stabling/supplies/etc, legal fees, advertising/event costs, merchandise expenses, website and technology fees etc. Individuals on the Board are not paid for their positions. We offer 100% transparency and are happy to answer any questions and provide all financial information at any time.
Our officers, directors, and volunteers take a neutral position with respect to the controversy associated with horse racing. Our efforts focus on the well being, re-homing, and education and support of ex-racehorses and finding them new careers after their racing careers have ended. We also support at-risk shelter dogs and occasional at-risk horses that end up neglected or in auction/slaughter situations when finances and abilities allow us to help. Any "listings" are simply to help network animals into new homes and we
can not be responsible for the representation of those animals.

As of July 2021, the facility we rented in Pennsylvania was sold out from under us with barely enough time to relocate over 30 horses anywhere in the area. We were able to secure a permanent residence at a new farm in Ocala and move all of our horses there. PARR now resides in Ocala, Florida but still operates as usual, helping horses from Pennsylvania as much as we can, offering sanctuary to our lifelong residents that are not adoptable or require veterinary care to say comfortable, and have our OTTB retraining program here in Ocala as well.

We are now permanently located at 6856 SW 70th Ave. Ocala, Florida 34476.
