Shelby, Now Available for Adoption!
Appendix appx 6 yo mare, 15.2 Unbroke
Adoption Fee: Inquire
Very sweet and beautiful. Shelby was one of our kill-pen rescues (Feb 22,2015) that was so skinny we didn't even know she was pregnant when we saved her from the kill pen. She foaled two weeks after we saved her, despite having a body condition score of a 2/9. She had a gorgeous foal shocking everyone that they both survived. Shelby was a fantastic mother and gave everything she had to little Sandy. They have been weaned and Shelby is now ready to find her forever home. She looks like a completely new horse and what a gorgeous girl she is! Very pretty mover, sweetest mare, easy keeper, just lovely to be around. We do not know her history, if/what training she has had, or her past. She does NOT have papers but was listed as an Appendix when left at the auction.
Since we are unsure of her history/training, she will only be adopted out to an experienced rider/owner or someone who will work with a professional trainer. As she does not have any papers or known breeding history, she would be not eligible as a broodmare for reputable breeding programs, so we will not be offering her as a broodmare prospect. She somehow had a miracle foal and gave her all to keep that foal alive. She doesn't owe anyone anything else.
She has no known soundness or health issues.
We may still consider the perfect home for her if someone wishes to work with a professional (or is a professional), to start her from the ground up to trainer her to be a pleasure horse. However, the times we have worked with her, had trainers do some sessions, etc, she gets very frustrated and seems confused when asked to do things like lunge, wear tack, etc. Professionals have worked with her on the ground and feel that she doesn't pick up on things as easily as most horses, and that she isn't an "easy case" for someone to just start themselves and teach her to be a riding horse. We do NOT know her history or what she went through in the past, so there could be lingering issues if someone started her poorly in the past. She is LOVELY on the ground as a pet, companion, pasture buddy, best friend, grandma to foals, etc. For that reason, we KNOW she can thrive in a home as a pet and babysitter type. We DON'T know what she will turn out like as a riding horse.... and what if she doesn't turn out to be what "you want"....there she is, unwanted again. That is why we would prefer to adopt her out as a pet. If someone adopts her from day one knowing what she is and what she isn't, she has a better chance of ending up in a forever home where she is happy, and you are happy.

Important Note About Meeting / Trying PARR Horses
PARR horses are not in active programs, they are waiting for their new homes to start their new jobs. They are often ridden once for a video and hanging out in field, stall at track, or being turned out at a foster farm the remainder of days while they wait to be adopted. Therefore, we do not allow PARR horses to be tried(ridden) for the best interest of the horse and liability risks for the owners, connections, trainers, etc. If a horse is new off the track, we may only adopt to an experienced rider, or capable rider working with a trainer. They will need to return to a program typical of a horse that is either just off the track or getting back into shape, from the ground up with your training methods. Most live at private farms that do not have arenas/riding areas. If we are able to haul a horse over to an indoor ring for an under saddle video we will, but that is dependent on the horse, schedule of foster home, and availability of a facility with an arena or place to ride. Shipping into a farm costs ring fees and sometimes expecting to pull a horse out of a field, haul them to a new place, hop on and expect them to knock our socks off is a lot to ask of a horse....but some of them do just that and those are the ones that sell fast, especially to those looking for great show-prospects for themselves or to bring along and sell down the road as an investment project. We can set up
appointments for you to meet the horses, see them move freely (or jog in hand), and vettings are welcome.
